Immersed in History at the Isett Heritage Museum
Today, I had the privilege of visiting the Isett Heritage Museum, a regional treasure that houses over 40,000 artifacts from Huntingdon County’s rich history. Founded by Mr. Melvin Isett (1922-2022) and his wife Beulah, the museum is the culmination of a lifetime spent collecting local memorabilia and antiques. In 2001, Mr. Isett opened the museum to the public, sharing his incredible collection with the community.
I spent five hours at the museum, working closely with Director Justina Hall and her dedicated staff. They had thoughtfully gathered receipts, books, images, and other artifacts for the communities where I still needed more information. The depth of their knowledge and the breadth of the collection were truly impressive. Before leaving, I took a quick walkthrough of the museum, capturing images of pieces I hope to incorporate into my quilt. This visit was an invaluable opportunity to gather the final elements for my project, and I left feeling inspired by the stories and history preserved within the walls of the Isett Heritage Museum.
