Navigating Challenges and Celebrating Heritage: Progress on My Latest Project
Over the past few days, I’ve been deeply immersed in the process of printing and troubleshooting the intricacies of working with archival materials. It’s been a busy and rewarding time as I successfully created quilt blocks for both the Isett’s Heritage Museum and the Swigart Museum. These local attractions proudly showcase the collections of two dedicated business owners, and I’m thrilled to honor their contributions through my work.
During my recent visit to the Orbisonia/Rockhill Homecoming, I had the chance to connect with historical societies and deepen my understanding of our shared heritage. However, I encountered some challenges in sourcing materials for the smaller communities within the county. To address this, I decided to explore the Library of Congress’s public domain images. This invaluable resource has been instrumental in filling in the gaps and ensuring that each quilt block accurately represents the rich history of our region.
Despite the obstacles, it’s been a fulfilling journey to blend historical research with artistic expression, and I’m excited to see these pieces come together to celebrate our local heritage.
