Commencement Threads – Graduation Gown Complete
The graduation gown, Commencement Threads, is now complete. This paper garment celebrates education as both a personal milestone and a shared community effort.
Built from yearbook images, handwritten assignments, school projects, and pages from old primers, the gown reflects not just individual achievement but the many roles that support learning—teachers, classmates, families, and local schools throughout the region.
Much of the imagery comes from the Mount Union Class of 1965 yearbook, offering a vivid look at how student accomplishments were recognized and remembered.
Layered, stitched, and assembled by hand, Commencement Threads honors the many ways education shapes lives—and how each graduation is woven from the threads of countless small efforts.
